| The Association |

- Our association is designed to collaborate
worldwide efforts to research the Kump lineage, particularly the
descendants and ancestors of John Kump (aka Johannes Kumpf, b.1776) and Barbara Bentzel
(b.1773) who were among the first in the Kump/Kumpf families who were born natively in
United States, both of their respective parents believed to have been born in
Germany.
- Membership is free, but donations are encouraged
to further the study of our familiar history and maintain this
website and our online database. To become a member of
the association, please complete our Online Membership Form.
- A periodic newsletter will be posted at this
website with respect to the Kump family lineage. Each issue will
normally be released upon learning significant information on our
family lines.
- Kump: metonymic occupational name for a
bowl maker, from Middle Low German kump '(wooden) bowl.'
Habitational name from a place so named in Westphalia. Variant
spelling of Kumpf. Kumpf: South German: variant of
Kump. German: nickname for a short stout man, from Middle High
German kumpf '(small) measure of grain,' 'pouch (for
whetstones).'
